1/2 cup water
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups water
1/3 cup margarine, softened
1/4 cup oil
1/4 cup chopped fresh rosemary
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 cup chopped walnuts
1 tablespoon lemon zest
In a large saucepan, bring water, brown sugar, white sugar, vanilla and water to a boil. Mix in butter, oil and rosemary. Let cool slightly.
Stir in salt, pepper, baking soda, salt, black pepper and rosemary. Place mixture in the saucepan and cook over medium heat until just under a boil. Cover and simmer for about 3 minutes. Remove from heat and stir in lemon zest. Serve over rice.
