Pork with Barley Recipe

Ingredients

1 pound pork shoulder

1 cup barley

1 tablespoon garlic powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon paprika

1 small onion, thinly sliced

1 small tomato, chopped

Directions

Preheat oven to 250 degrees F (120 degrees C).

In a large bowl, mix together the barley, garlic powder, salt, paprika, and onion slices.

Arrange the pig on a large baking sheet. Broil 10 minutes per side, or until all of the pork is browned, but not all of the fat is removed. Remove the pan and heat off the grill.

Place the onion slices in the pan. Broil 5 minutes per side, until tender and translucent.

Pull the pork from the pan and grill at 25 to 30 minutes per side, until no longer pink. Serve with ham or beef, if desired.

I submitted this recipe many years ago as an experiment when I was learning about the site. It is great as-is but I upped the broth to 2-1/2 cups and made it even better. I halved the recipe as I only had one package of hot dogs bun, but it still only made enough for 4 people. So yum!
