1 cup warm milk (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)
1/2 cup butter
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 (10 ounce) can sliced almonds
1 cup shredded Swiss cheese
In a large saucepan, milk and butter are melted and slowly whisking until smooth. Remove from heat and stir in sugar. Beat in eggs, one at a time. Beat in the vanilla and almonds.
Pour mixture into a 9 inch diameter dish or loaf pans or round pie pan. Cover and chill overnight.
Meanwhile, whisk together butter and sugar until full. Beat in egg mixture. Pour into prepared pan. Chill overnight.
While the bread is chilling, preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
Place the slices of Swiss cheese on the center of each slice of bread. Place an almond slice on top of the cheese. Top each slice with 1/4 cup sliced almonds. Place the bread slices on top of the cheese and sprinkle with 1 tablespoon sugar. Chill in refrigerator overnight in order to prevent sticking.
Remove bread slices from the refrigerator. Place slices into a 9x13 inch baking dish and arrange the slices around the bread. Pour the milk around the edges of the bread crust and press lightly using a fork.
Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, then remove from oven and sprinkle with chopped almonds. Drizzle with remaining 1 tablespoon sugar, sprinkle with chopped cheese and serve immediately.
