2 cups white sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons baking powder
1 egg
3 tablespoons milk
3 tablespoons butter
4 tablespoons all-purpose flour
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup applesauce
1/4 cup chopped walnuts
In a large bowl, mix sugar, flour, baking powder, egg, milk, butter, flour, baking soda, vanilla, and applesauce. Shape mixture into 1 a 1/2-inch square loaf; cool and cut into 1-inch squares. Lightly grease a 9x9-inch pan.
Heat oven to 400 degrees F or 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Sprinkle with walnuts. Bake 20 minutes in center of each oven, or until lightly browned. Remove foil from edges of pan; cool slightly. Brush tops of pecan halves with egg mixture. Bake for about 30 minutes; remove foil and let cool completely.
