3 cups coarsely chopped white sugar
2 cups brown sugar
2 eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon lemon zest
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 (9 inch) round baking pans.
In a large bowl, combine sugar and brown sugar. Stir together the eggs, vanilla and brown sugar mixture. stir until well blended. Stir in lemon juice. Stir in lemon zest. Pour batter into prepared pans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 50 to 60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before cutting into bars.
