1 cup miso soup mix
2/3 cup water
1/3 cup unsalted butter
1 pound firm (1/4) ground beef
1 pound ground pork
1 egg
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground black pepper to taste
1 (.25 ounce) package dry onion flakes
2 (12 ounce) jars sweetened ground beef
3 cups milk
In a saucepan, heat soup mix, water, and butter over medium heat. Bring to a boil and remove from heat. Stir in beef, ground pork, egg, salt, and sufficient ground black pepper to taste. Cover, and refrigerate 40 minutes, turning frequently.
Remove from refrigerator, stir in onion flakes and 1/2 teaspoon pressure. Create an inch of space between the two layers of meat. Pour about 1 cup milk, an equal amount to make two meatballs. Gently lay them out on a piece of waxed paper. Use a spatula or knife to separate meat and vegetable layer, using a slotted spoon. If necessary, shape the meat into a ball to form a loaf.
