Old Time Bread Recipe

Ingredients

2 cups white sugar

6 eggs

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup butter, room temperature

3 cups all-purpose flour

2 teaspoons baking powder

2 teaspoons baking soda

2 teaspoons baking soda

1 cup milk

1 teaspoon white sugar for decoration

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease muffin cups or line with paper muffin liners.

In a large bowl, beat 2 cups sugar and eggs. Stir in salt, vanilla, melted butter, flour, baking powder, baking soda and milk. Gradually mix in the flour mixture, continuing to beat until smooth. Fold in the sugar and eggs. Spoon batter into prepared paper liners.

Bake in preheated oven for 20 to 21 minutes, until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) and continue baking for an additional 20 minutes. Cool on a wire rack, and refrigerate overnight.

Meanwhile, prepare muffin decorations for the center of oven by filling muffin liners with the leftover batter. Place a layer of muffin decorations on each muffin. Tuck edges of muffins in cup. Place second layer of muffin decorations on top of the first. Top with cup and ribbon. Garnish muffins with vanilla extract.

Not great but better than trying to replace the white bread with something sweet, buttery, or both. Next time I might try something sweet, buttery, or both.

With the addition of sour cream and dry mustard this is the endearing little American Sourdough. You don't necessarily need the yeast nutrient, this will do just fine. I have made earlier versions of this and they were enjoyed, so I did not add the dry mustard.

This is good and easy and good for you! I usually use a whole wheat tortilla (regular or little corn) for breakfast, so I was a little concerned with the consistency of this recipe. I made a big yellow loaf pan (1-1/2 inch deep) and put it in the freezer, then filled it with bread and stacked it on top of a cookie sheet. I didn't take the photo with the tortilla mix; that's a little messy. I'm making it up to you by taking the photo; it was a whole new loaf!

the dough was not throw together like others have described, it was tough and the texture was odd
