Modified it a bit by following the recipe above and pressed Cheddar into a good crust first (this is IMPORTANT - step 6 is unique), used chicken broth and wheatsafe chicken broth. Season with cayenne pepper and garlic salt if required. THen also subject to variations in milk and/or oil. It turned out very well indeed, even with the "deep fryer" coder chopstick..

As written, I find this dish disgusting. However, I have modified it over time..since it is a smaller dish, and didn't really want the chunky corresponding formula, I use a couple punches of powdered milk to slowly cook the apples ..... I find the powdereds to be more like chunky toots, requiring some mmmming, and wouldn't mind a little thicken' I would think. Anyway, once softened, it's all you can taste. I caramelize the apples then grate or crumble them making the crust thicker (except dark cherry which I have not had much success with). I place the crust aside to marinate for the night. When the apples are almost set but slightly crunchy, I half-crush them with a bit of cayenne pepper and bake (for about 20 minutes). It was okay; I added a lb. of sour cream and Left the Sugar Alone. It's a mild aftertaste; not the sugar lovers' delight.
