Turkey Sandwich Casserole Recipe

Ingredients

2 tablespoons vegetable oil

1 cup all-purpose flour

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

2 pounds turkey breast halves, cooked

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

2 teaspoons paprika

1 teaspoon dried oregano

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 teaspoon dried sage

Directions

Heat oil in large skillet over medium heat. Fry Swiss cheese in oil until golden. Remove turkey from pan. Stir in salt, pepper, paprika, oregano and basil. Pour over casserole while still warm.

Cool overnight in pan. Remove foil from pan. Wrap turkey in foil and place in pan to cool. Cover lid tightly with aluminum foil. Cook in pan for 30 minutes or until turkey is no longer pink. Maintain heat in skillet. Remove foil from pan.

Remove foil from skillet and cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, for 2 to 4 minutes, until turkey is no longer pink. Do not allow to brown, turning occasionally, over medium heat. Remove turkey from plastic wrap and cut into cubes. Crumble cheese over meat. Cover bottom of pan with foil and heat to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Continue cooking about 15 minutes or until cheese is melted and bubbly. Remove pan from heat.

Serve meat sandwiches over prepared casserole. Makes 1 sandwich.

I really like this basic recipe! I masticated the soybeans before bed and turned my chili powder to 0.1% using an immersion blender (which is the best investment if you like to make soups and smoothies). I used 1/2 tsp of cinnamon and added 1/2 tsp of nutmeg. I also used a couple of tablespoons of flour from my casserole and used that to thicken the sauce. I found that my husband had purchased a different brand of frozen vegetables which I didn't know of and was using it. I was worried that my husband would have a hard time finding what he was eating because it was so cheap. However, he said that he had purchased a meal-in-a-kitchen type of item and was really pleased with the quality and qu

I tweaked the recipe slightly--use 1/2 cup raisins and add 1/2 tsp. freshly ground black pepper. I've never made the "innocent enough" bun but this recipes was very good. As with all of Maurice Ramsey's recipes, this is a fabulous base--extremely versatile, and extremely tasty. Polite request--when possible, I tried to broken down the dried beans so I could have leftovers for tomorrow night but so far it hasn't worked. I'll try this with whole beans next time but will probably not try with dried.
