1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese
1/4 cup milk
2 tablespoons shortening
1 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 tablespoon dried basil powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon all-purpose flour
1/2 cup frozen water chestnuts, thawed
1/3 cup increasing amounts of milk, sweetened by deep immersion in 2-liter water, until desired consistency.
Mix together cream cheese, milk, shortening and lemon zest in large bowl until smooth. Add flour and grated lemon rind. Bring to a boil. DO NOT CROP. Stir in water chestnuts. To serve add cream cheese mixture, 1/2 cup milk, lemon rind, basil powder, garlic powder, 1/2 teaspoon salt and flour. Serve immediately.
