1 cup butter
1 cup chocolate syrup
4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups confectioners' sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon cardamom
1 2/3 tablespoons water
3/4 cup milk chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter and 1 cup of chocolate syrup. Stir in the flour and the sugar. Add the chocolate mixture, mix until well blended. Press the mixture evenly into the prepared 11x17 inch pan.
Bake for 12 to 15 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden and crisp. Cool completely before cutting into squares or stripes. These keep well placed between wax paper and parchment paper in a jar.
To make the frosting: In a medium bowl, stir together the confectioners' sugar and cardamom. Beat on medium speed until blended. Spread half of frosting over cooled cake, then spread remaining frosting over the top.
