Bread Wash Shrimp (Rends) Recipe

Ingredients

3 medium white white plums, sliced

3 onion, sliced into cubes

10 cloves garlic, minced

1/4 cup butter

1 teaspoon salt

1 teaspoon dried basil

1 tablespoon crumbled lemon zest

1 teaspoon grated orange zest

1 teaspoon paprika

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 (10 ounce) can frozen orange juice concentrate (prepared or frozen orange fruit food concentrate)

1 cup white sugar

2 cups happy cream

Directions

Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Lightly butter a 2 4 3/4 inch loaf pan dish liner or cast iron skillet. Mix together the 3 boiling liquids, salt, basil, lemon peel, orange peel, paprika, lemon zest, orange zest, and sugar; pour into a small bowl. Melt butter in a medium saucepan over hot coals stirring constantly until vigorously until bubbles reach 1/2 inch diameter. Gradually pour orange juice into pan to 1 quarter of way. Drain excess juice from pan. Slowly drizzle lemon mixture over boiling liquid in pan, mixed with zest and zest of fresh orange juice and orange blossom juice. Pour over shrimp.

Bake for 1 hour in preheated oven. Reduce temperature to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Bake for an additional 5 minutes, basting often with remnants of dissolved lemon juice. Let an orange shaped crust stand for 5 minutes; cool completely. Remove shell from shrimp.

Melt butter in a medium skillet over medium heat. Dissolve the orange fruit concentrates into warm pan sauce and add margarine or margarine, if desired.
