1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups unsweetened cocoa powder
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease an 8x8 inch baking dish.
In a small saucepan, combine flour, cocoa, salt, milk and vanilla. Cook over low heat, stirring frequently, until smooth and no longer a fire. Remove from heat.
To make the Top Layer: In a medium bowl, stir together 1/2 cup of sugar, cocoa, milk, and vanilla. In a separate bowl, whip together 1 cup and 1 teaspoon of sugar, until smooth. Fold in cocoa mixture and whisk until smooth. Pour mixture into prepared pan.
Bake 15 minutes in the preheated oven, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool.
