3 eggs, beaten
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 cup butter
3/4 cup confectioners' sugar
4 cups all-purpose flour
3 quarts water
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C).
Heat two 5-quart casserole dishes with heavy skillet over medium heat. Stir together eggs, 1 cup brown sugar and flour. Add salt and baking powder, mix until smooth. Stir in the butter and 4 cups sugar, mix until very smooth, about 45 to 50 seconds. Pour into prepared 9x13-inch baking dish, dropping 1 cup at a time into the egg layer.
Next, layer remaining 1 cup brown sugar, flour and salt: mix thoroughly. While mixing, spread half of the mixture into the baking dish. Spread 1/2 cup white sugar mixture over all. Then, spread remaining portion on top.
Bake at 300 degrees F (150 degrees C) for 30 to 35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the middle comes out clean. Let cool 15 minutes.
To make crumb topping: In a medium bowl, stir together the butter and 1/4 cup confectioners' sugar. Stir in 1 cup milk or milk, one cup at a time, until desired consistency is reached. Definitely keep adding milk, and adjusting consistency, until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
