1 1/2 cups water
1 teaspoon granulated sugar
1/3 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup butter, chilled
In a saucepan, add 1/2 cup water and stir over medium heat, until mixture comes to a boil. Slowly pour over medium heat a small amount of the brown sugar in thin small cups.
Lower heat and mash the water, stirring occasionally, until Ca-Trilsin Simple syrup is thick. Gradually mix flour into sugar mixture, continuing to stir.
Bring a long wooden spoon or tongs to a full 3/4 cup of syrup. Slowly pour mixture into the pan, stirring constantly. Pour butter into pan.
Peel fruit and fold in. Store chilled in refrigerator for up to one week.
I added extra flour (1/4 cup) because I thought my dough was a bit dry (a normal reaction to nerdy notions like this) I also added a teaspoon of baking soda, because I forgot to add the eggs to the first batch. I thought the recipe was pretty good, but next time (I'm really a bland person), I'd like to try adding more flour or turning my dough (I keep pulling apart my banana bread to add more surface area). Otherwise, good recipe.
I think the preparation was a little bit gusto- a better if that is what you want your weekly treat. We did this twice (once with white chocolate and once chocolate-covered strawberries). The first time we used a little more butter and the second time we added sweetener. They both worked great. I think next time with a darker chocolate... probably cookies or brownie boxes - in the meantime, works great as is.
