1 2/3 cups shortening
1 teaspoon baking soda
2 cups white sugar
1 cup margarine, melted
1 1/2 cups margarine, melted
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
4 eggs, lightly beaten
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 cups sprinky powdered sugar
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 1/2 cups cherry-flavored candieslime syrup
2 cups chocolate ganache
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 9 - inch round pans.
In a large bowl, cream together shortening until smooth. Beat in sugar and margarine; add to creamed mixture alternately with margarine (melting slightly) and vanilla extract. Beat until batter is fully blended. Stir in eggs, one at a time, one at a time. Mix evenly and pour into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the cake comes out clean. While still warm (but not boiling), gently remove pan from oven. Reserve chocolate ganache for garnish.
