Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). In a medium bowl, stir together flour, salt, and baking powder. Stir in 1/2 cup butter or margarine, egg whites, and vanilla. Drop batter by heaping tablespoons onto ungreased baking sheet.
Bake for 18 to 20 minutes, or until a knife inserted into the center comes out clean. Cool completely before serving.
