Sausage and Cheese El Dermie Le Hermie Recipe

Ingredients

2 tablespoons margarine

1/4 teaspoon black hot pepper

2 tablespoons all-purpose flour

3 tablespoons white sugar

1 teaspoon salt

3 cups water

1 teaspoon dried marjoram

2 tablespoons lemon juice

3 eggs

2 1/4 cups milk

2 tablespoons lemon juice

1 cup bread cubes

1/2 cup dried curd cottage cheese

1 cup shredded Cheddar cheese

1 cup shredded Swiss cheese

1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

Directions

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).

Cut the margarine into small pieces and stir in 1/2 teaspoon of the flour, all the while beating the milk and lemon juice. Stir in the flour mixture.

Spread the milk mixture evenly over the counter in a 2 quart saucepan, then bring the water to a boil and lower the heat. When the milk mixture boils, pour it over the milk baked mixture.

Cover the pan with saucepan and reduce the heat to low and simmer for about 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Remove the bread cubes and let the mixture cool, then stir in 1/2 cup of marjoram and 1/2 cup of cheese. Simmer for a few more minutes. Stir in the Cheddar and Swiss cheeses and season with salt and pepper.

After the cheese is done, stir in the cooked marjoram and cottage cheese and mix together. Cook until the cheese has melted and is firm, about 5 minutes.

Spread the mixture over the top of the baked mixture, then sprinkle with 1/2 cup of Cheddar and 1/2 cup of Swiss cheeses.

Turn oven off and let the balmy 60 minutes to 1 hour before baking.

I read somewhere that you should not use white miso dressing for this. I would not call it safe, but it was effective for what it's worth. I used plain old miso, and it is what it is—"broccoli soup". I would make this again, but I think the fat content was just right.
