1 tablespoon shortening
1 small red onion, chopped
3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons white sugar
2 cups milk
3 tablespoons cornstarch
1 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a sauce pan combine shortening, 1 small red onion, flour, sugar, milk, cornstarch and salt; stir. Heat until boiling. Stir in vanilla extract. Return mixture to stove. Heat and stir until well blended. Stir in sauce, serving hot.
