1 cup shortening
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup brown sugar
1 egg
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
18 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets.
In a large bowl, cream together the shortening and oatmeal until smooth. Stir in the brown sugar, egg and vanilla until well blended. Divide the dough into two even pieces, then roll them into walnut sized balls and place them 2 inches apart onto the prepared cookie sheets.
Bake for 11 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven. Allow cookies to cool on baking sheet for 5 minutes before removing to cool on wire racks.
