Easy Hot Water Crust Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup warm water (110 degrees F/45 degrees C)

2 tablespoons white sugar

1 egg

1 cup buttermilk

6 tablespoons white sugar

2 teaspoons instant powdered gelatin

2 eggs, beaten

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

In a large bowl, combine the water, 2 tablespoons of sugar, egg, buttermilk, and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Stir until blended.

Transfer mixture to a large bowl and pour in the boiling water, stirring well to combine. Continue to stir and gradually pour in the gelatin until mixture is creamy. Continue to stir in the eggs and vanilla, gradually mixing in the flour/salt mixture just until all ingredients are thoroughly combined. Pour in the dough into a lightly greased 10 inch springform pan. Cover the pan with plastic wrap and refrigerate dough for 2 hours or overnight.

Preheat oven broiler.

Slice dough into 1-inch thick slices. Arrange approximately 1 inch apart on a baking sheet.

Bake 15 to 20 minutes in the preheated oven; continue baking until knife inserted in center comes out clean. Let cool 10 minutes before removing from the baking sheet.
