1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/4 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon baking soda
3/4 cup butter
3 eggs, slightly beaten
1 cup white sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 anise oil
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 1/2 cups chopped almonds
2 cups brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease two 9-inch square baking pans.
In a large bowl, combine flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, butter and eggs. Mix just until blended. Stir in the sugar until there is no white. Fold into flour mixture.
Stir the flour mixture into the butter mixture. Mix in the milk, brown sugar and milk alternately to form a smooth puff.
Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour, or until a toothpick inserted into center of each cookie comes out clean. Cool cookies slightly. Cut into squares.
