1 cup sour cream

1/2 cup white sugar

1/2 cup lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper

3/4 cup vegetable oil

3 cups milk

1 1/2 cups sour cream

1/2 cup chopped yellow onion

Cutting taxes by half for next generation apples also caused a stir in Brazil, where young consumers are eager for family-friendly products.

The Brazilian public opinion is against the tax increase, but consumers are enjoying its fruits and vegetables.

"I will pay the additional tax fee of 5-6 euros for next year's apples," a young woman says over the sound of a clapper.

"That isn't enough to eat, you know," a man says.

The tax increases are part of a larger push by the government to raise revenue through excise taxes.

"There is no doubt that the taxes on apples are very expensive," a spokesman for the Treasury department said.

"It seems to be a food for special occasions, as well as regular sales," he added.

The next generation of apples are being produced by the Brazilian importers, and the farmers are being encouraged to use hand-crafted fruits.

While the tax increases are welcome, they are not enough to compensate for the substantially reduced value of apples, which have fallen from their peak of $2 per pound in 2005 to $2.50 per pound today, according to the government.

Brazil was ranked the third-best country in the world for fruit production last year, according to the Grape Index, and the first time since 1966 that Brazil has been in the top five.

The Brazilian government has set aside 10 million reals (Rs.15 million) for the tax increases.

To celebrate the tax increases, the government is offering a variety of Brazilian fruits and vegetables at reduced prices.

"They're delicious," one woman says, adding that she likes the petroleum-based fruit-vanilla pudding.

"The apples are so attractive, they are all fresh and ripe. And I want them to be hung with fresh water, otherwise they will rot," another woman says, adding that she cooks well with tomatoes and onions.

To serve with fruit, place some of the apples in a large bowl and pour in some of the apple juice and water.

Really easy and wonderful flavor. I followed the recipe exactly, she was happy with the ingredients and the way they came out. I did add garlic powder, though...and not as much, because I don't like spicy food and didn't want her to be afraid of it. I added way too many ingredients and only used about half the amount of ingredients--it was a little overkill, but hey, I was super-excited about it and didn't think twice about it. It was worth cooking with Szechuan Pepper, I think.
