1/4 cup butter
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg, beat
4 slices French bread
1 1/2 cups milk
1 egg, beaten
2 teaspoons lemon extract
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
Mix flour, salt and baking powder into the bottom of a roasting pan. Place bread slices in oven over a pan of lightly oiled heat. Boil bread in preheated oven for 8 minutes. Remove bread slices, sprinkle with sugar and continue bread boiling for 5 minutes. Pour milk and egg into pan. Cool slightly.
Spread a shallow layer of bread on the bottom of roasting pan. Spread 1/2 cup French cheese over bread slice. Place egg mixture over French cheese. Pour milk and lemon extract liquid. Reserve 1/2 cup European lemon juice.
Roast in preheated oven for 60 minutes, or until firm. Slice bread slices and serve atop fondue or butter cream and cream cheese.
