1 cup butter, softened
2 cups white sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 cup milk
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour 2 (9 inch) round pans.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, sugar, 2 cups sugar and vanilla. Beat in the eggs one at a time. Combine the flour, baking soda, baking powder and 1 cup of milk, stir into the creamed mixture thoroughly. Fold in the milk until just blended. Spread the batter into the prepared pans.
Bake in the preheated oven for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean. Allow to cool completely before frosting.
