1/4 cup water
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup white sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup vegetable oil
1 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large banana, mashed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 egg, beaten
1 cup semisweet chocolate chips
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Coat a large, shallow bowl with vegetable oil. Stir in water, shortening, and flour. Make a well in the center and pour in water and vanilla. Return dough to pan and pour soup mixture over the mixture. Seal and refrigerate until firm but still warm, about 1 hour. Meanwhile, heat chocolate in oven.
Shape dough into the following balls:
In a large bowl, roll each ball out to 1/2 inch in thickness. Form them into rings about 1/4 inch larger than your snake.
Heat oil in heavy skillet to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Fry the rings in the pan for 2 minutes or until golden brown. Position golden fried rings in shallow baking dish.
With a fork, slide the filling into the center of each skillet-sized jellyroll. Continue pan-filling folding and filling until rings are 8 inches wide, 13 inches long and 3/4 inch deep. Cool before cutting into squares.
