1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1 cup milk
2 eggs, beaten
1/3 cup white sugar
2 tablespoons lemon juice
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 tablespoons lemon zest
1/4 teaspoon grated lemon zest
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
2 tablespoons molasses
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons lemon zest
4 slices white bread
In a large bowl, mix cream cheese, milk, eggs, sugar, lemon juice and lemon zest. Mix well. Stir in flour, baking powder, soda, molasses, salt, lemon zest and flour mixture. Shape dough into a 10 inch square. Place square seam-side down in preheated oven. Place bread slices 2 inches apart onto slices of white bread.
Place seam side down in preheated oven until it is about 160 degrees F (70 degrees C). Bake for 20 minutes or until bubbly and golden brown. Serve warm. Garnish with whipped cream and lemon zest.
