Caramels Recipe

Ingredients

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup hot water

1/2 cup margarine

1/2 cup white sugar

1 egg

1/3 cup margarine, melted

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 cup applesauce

1 cup pears, peeled and thinly sliced

Directions

In a large bowl, combine margarine, hot water and sugar. Heat and stir until it is thickened. When it begins to melt, stir in egg and margarine. Remove from heat and stir in margarine mixture. Pour into a 9x13 inch baking dish. Cover and chill at least 2 hours.

Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Season with preserves, cinnamon and salt. Bake in preheated oven for 5 hours, stirring occasionally.

When the applesauce has set, crumble them with an electric mixer and pour into baking dish. Bake for another 5 hours, stirring occasionally. Remove from heat and stir in the margarine, applesauce and pears. Serve warm.
