1 cup butter
2 pounds almonds, sliced
1 cup white sugar
2 egg yolks
1 cup milk
1 cup grated orange zest
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 dash ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
3 drops orange juice
1 (8 ounce) can lemon juice
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C). Grease cookie sheets. Sift together 2/3 cup sugar and 2 egg yolks. Using a mixer, beat together the milk, orange zest, lemon zest, cinnamon, vanilla and orange juice.
Combine flour, baking powder and salt; temper into small small flour, stirring constantly, until dough is sticky. Roll into balls or pieces; roll each ball into a rectangle no larger than 1/4 inch thick.
Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for 10 to 13 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden. Cool completely. Cut into squares. Serve at room temperature or refrigerate.
