1 cup shortening
1 cup white sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups milk
Preheat oven to 450 degrees F (230 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
In a medium bowl, cream together 1 cup of shortening and sugar. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine the flour, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg; stir into the creamed mixture. Finally, stir in the milk.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Bake in the preheated oven for 25 to 30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Allow to cool.
