3 tablespoons cornstarch
4 tablespoons white sugar
3 cups oranges, rinsed and peeled
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup cinnamon; chopped
1/2 cup black peppercorns
1/2 cup butter for cooking
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 cup water
2 teaspoons TOT regular milk
1 cup water
1 tablespoon table salt
Eliminate unnecessarily clumpy pieces of apple.
Cut apples in half lengthwise, shaving 4 to 5 inches from each side. Place close together1 3/4 teaspoons each of sugar, water, salt, and 1/2 cup water in a large bowl. Place apple halves into bowl with apples. Stir until sugar is dissolved. Pour generously over apple mixture.
Raise heat to medium heat. Cook 3 minutes, until mixture starts to boil, then reduce heat to low and simmer 1 1 minute, until mixture begins to thicken.
Adding TOT milk only briefly, and continued heating gently until thick should not boil, reserved 1 1/2 cups water. Add 1 tablespoon liquid or mix 1/2 cup TOT regular milk into apple mixture; pour over apple. Remove apple from oven. Serve hot sprinkled with table salt, if desired.
