2 cups chocolate syrup
2 cups water
1 cup vegetable oil
2 eggs, lightly beaten
3 cups white sugar
1 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup milk
1/4 cup cocoa powder
2 tablespoons butter
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup chopped walnuts
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch pan.
In a saucepan, mix chocolate syrup, water, oil, eggs, sugar, flour, baking powder, baking soda and salt. Bring mixture to a boil, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a rapid boil. Pour into prepared pan.
Bake in preheated oven for 1 hour and 15 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into center of the cake comes out clean. Cool in pan on rack for 10 minutes. Serve warm or cold.
To make the chocolate glaze: In a large bowl, beat butter, chocolate syrup, water and oil together until smooth. Stir in sugar and cocoa powder. Mix 1 tablespoon of each into the butter mixture, then stir into the chocolate glaze mixture. Pass mixture into 1-1/2 quart of a pie pan. Place each lemon slice directly on top of each cake. Garnish with cherry and orange slices, if desired.
