1 (9 inch) whole can apple, with juice
1 cup white sugar
3 egg yolks
1 1/2 teaspoons lemon zest
3 apples
2 eggs
2 teaspoons lemon zest
2 cups water
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons lemon zest
4 cups diced tart cherries
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease bottom of 3 quart casserole dish.
Remove peel from candied apples. Remove pulp from apples, core and cut out seeds. Cut out pulp and juice. Stick cinnamon sticks with melted butter or margarine to sticks of butter. Insert the slices of tart cherries onto the apples and candy with fingers. Insert lemon zests into cherry slices.
Bake in preheated oven for 3 hours. Cool, cut into squares or refrigerate overnight. Cut each apple square into six wedges.
