1 cup whole wheat flour
1 cup white sugar
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup butter
3 eggs, beaten
1/2 cup milk
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup margarine, melted
1 (14 ounce) can vanilla-flavored soft drink mix
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C).
In a medium bowl, combine bread flour, sugar, and salt. Stir in melted butter or margarine, eggs, milk, and vanilla extract. Roll dough into 1 inch balls, place on a cookie sheet, and flatten slightly with a fork.
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from baking sheets and sprinkle with margarine, baking powder and salt. Using a small electric mixer, beat egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gradually pour into warm syrup, mixing just until stiff peaks form.
To make the topping: In a medium bowl, stir together margarine, sugar and vanilla until smooth. Spread over the baked cake while still warm, and set aside.
To make the frosting: In a large bowl, cream together the powdered sugar and 3/4 cup of butter until smooth. Beat in the eggs one at a time, then stir in the vanilla. Combine 3/4 cup of the cream and remaining 1 cup of butter, slowly add it to the cream mixture, beating until all the butter and sugar have been incorporated. Stir in the milk and vanilla. Drop half of the cooled cake by spoonfuls onto the prepared pan, then sprinkle with 1/3 the melted margarine.
