1/2 cup shortening
1/4 cup white sugar
1 1/2 tablespoons water
1/4 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon salt
3/4 cup cornstarch
1/2 cup soft bread cubes
1/2 cup ground dried corn
1 cup toasted, ground walnuts
1/2 cup margarine
1/2 teaspoon salt
3 tablespoons butter, melted
2 1/2 tablespoons warm water
Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) and lightly grease an 8x8 inch baking pan.
In a medium bowl, cream together the shortening, white sugar, and water. Stir in the beaten eggs, a few at a time, until well blended . Stir in vinegar. Pour half of mixture into the prepared pan, swirl with a fork, and layer 1 cup corn cube and 1 cup ground walnuts, 1/4 cup margarine, and salt. Repeat layering, repeating 2 more times with other ingredients. Drizzle corn syrup over layers, then sprinkle remaining 1 cup cube of nut over top.
Bake, covered, for 30 to 35 minutes, or until firm. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Left over until top is light brown. Cool completely on wire rack. Eat warmed, and enjoy!
