1/3 cup distilled white vinegar
1/2 cup shortening
3/4 cup water
1/2 cup raisins
1/2 cup unflavored gelatin
6 different angel hair candies
Preheat oven to 300 degrees F (150 degrees C). Grease a 9x13-inch pan.
In a large bowl, combine vinegar, shortening and water. Mix and stir until well blended. In a small bowl, combine gelatin and gelatin mixture. Fold into sauce mixture. Pour into prepared pan, then sprinkle with gelatin mixture. Spread evenly into prepared pan.
Bake, covered, in preheated oven for 1 hour.
Meanwhile, in a saucepan, heat the remaining 1/2 cup of sugar and bring to a boil over medium-low heat. Simmer, stirring constantly, until the sugar is dissolved. Stir in gelatin mixture and continue to heat until very warm.
Pour gelatin mixture into hot boiling water and simmer for 2 minutes. Pour the mixture over the pork, pressing down as necessary, to make sure no lumps remain. Drain off heat. Add more sugar if necessary.
Stir gelatin mixture to hot sauce pan, and add other candies if desired. Pour almost all of the hot sauce over the pork, then sprinkle with additional raisins.
Cook, covered, for 45 to 50 minutes, until a candy thermometer reads 242 degrees F (124 degrees C).
