1 cup butter
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 cup brown sugar
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup moist bread crumbs
1 egg, beaten
1/4 teaspoon milk
1 teaspoon lemon zest
Preheat oven broiler.
In a large bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar, brown sugar, vanilla and brown sugar. Stir flour into the creamed mixture just until moistened. Mix in the salt and yeast mixture. Stir egg and milk. Pour into a greased 9x5-inch pan.
Pour batter into prepared pan. Layer with bread crumbs and egg.
Bake in preheated oven for 40 minutes, or until golden brown. Cool slightly on a wire rack.
While the rolls are basting, prepare the strawberry jam by whisking together the sugar and cream of tartar. Mix in the egg, lemon zest and milk. Punch a small hole in the roll to get steam out.
