1/4 cup butter
1 (16 ounce) package cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup milk
1 egg
3 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease and flour an 8 inch square pan.
In a medium bowl, cream together the butter, brown sugar and brown sugar until smooth. Beat in the milk, egg and flour. Stir in the flour mixture. Mix in the brown sugar mixture. Pour batter into prepared pan.
Bake in the preheated oven for 1 hour, or until center of the brownies spring back when touched. Cool completely. Frost with frosting ingredient of your choice. Store leftovers in refrigerator.
To make the frosting: In a medium saucepan, warm the butter mixture 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each adjustment. Beat in the sugar mixture alternately with the milk/egg mixture, mixing just until incorporated. Refrigerate, stirring occasionally, until frosting is set. Thoroughly blend the flour, baking powder and baking soda in a small bowl.
