French American Bread Recipe

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups white sugar

1 3/4 cups melted butter, softened

1/4 cup packed light brown sugar

1 pint fruit preserves, sectioned into squares

1 (8 ounce) package cream cheese, softened

1 cup evaporated milk

1 tablespoon orange juice

3 teaspoons apple pie spice

1 teaspoon lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

Directions

Preheat the oven broiler.

Put the sugar and 1 3/4 cup brown sugar in a small saucepan over simmering water. Mix well and bring mixture into a small bowl. Stir together the butter, light brown sugar, fruit preserves and cream cheese.

In a large bowl, beat the evaporated milk and orange juice until light and fluffy. Stir in the vanilla, orange juice and pie spice. Mix thoroughly. Gradually blend flour into the creamed mixture, keeping other ingredients relatively sweet.

Transfer mixture into a 9x5 inch loaf pan where them the insides are touching. Spoon filling into prepared loaf pan.

Bake in the preheated oven for 35 minutes in the preheated oven. Reduce oven temperature to broil. While the bread bakes brown the inside of the loaf pan. Let it cool for about 30 minutes before serving. Garnish warm using toothpicks.
