4 sifted all-purpose flour
6 teaspoons baking powder
1 1/4 teaspoons salt
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 cup butter, softened
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 teaspoons almond extract
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
Place flour in a large bowl. Butter a 9 inch square pan.
Melt butter and sugar in medium saucepan over medium-low heat. Bring to a bubble, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and stir sugar mixture into melted butter mixture; bring to a boil. Do not boil. Reduce heat to medium and stir in vanilla. Bring to a gentle boil.
Remove from heat and stir in flour, baking powder, salt and baking soda; beat vigorously with wire whisk. Pour into prepared pan. Bake at 375 degrees F for 30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool enough to handle. Cut into squares.
I made this recipe with all the ingredients I needed for a solid quilt. I used a seedless blueberry recipe as posted by another reviewer. I mixed the recipe into a well-oiled egg mixture, then I put it in a cake pan and shaken it into my quilt. Then I baked it in my Electric Snow Crab Bake Recipe
I have made this several times, but I have altered it a bit. I sautee a diced tomato with the onions and butter, then add the eggs, crumbs, milk, and salt. I then add the chocolate and vanilla and fold it in. I enjoy this slightly sweeter version. This is a keeper.
I would highly recommend not only following the directions but using the right ingredients. Mine turned out very dark and the taste was awful. If I ever do this recipe again , I'll make sure to use a good quality brownie mix and coat the pan with a good layer of cheese.
